Jeju Island: World Automobile Museum

Kevin here, and this place was a win for little Monster and I. This museum doubles as a piano museum as well, but the funny part – there were only three pianos in the entire thing.

When you first walked into the Museum, it was an outdoor play area for kids with cars they could sit in and pretend to ride.  Monster went crazy!  After entering the gate he went full speed and ran from car to car and never slowed down.  He was in absolute heaven.

But it wouldn't be Korea without some form of randomness, and the outdoor car park was filled with roaming deer.  Why?  So weird.

When you left the outdoor cars, you came to the museum building, where the main course for cars were kept.  The best part was all the kids cars parked right at the door.  Monster claimed a car and Little A decided to be her chauffeur.

The majority of the cars there were classic cars, but it was really neat for me to see the first cars that had a V8, the first to add in a back row, side mirrors, basically the evolution of the car into what we have today.

The last row was my favorite because it had a classic DeLorean, a Lamborghini countach, a Ferrari 308 GTS (the magnum P.I. car) etc. That was so great to see them, as well as some of Rolls Royce brand to include the car driven for Queen Elizabeth II. They were  beautiful.

In typical Korean style, the had a race track that I was actually able to take Monster on and he was able to steer and drive. He was rusty (weird) at the age of 3, but for the most part I enjoyed getting whipped back and forth as a steering wheel has to be moved back and forth excessively in order for it to work.

All the children ticket holders were able to ride the race track.  Heather took Little A out for a spin, or more appropriately Little A took Heather out for a spin.  I was able to take a second turn as M&M drove around.

After they were done driving, all the kids were given cue little souvenir licenses.  For the rest of the day, Little A held onto her license as if her life depended on it.

Lastly we went into the gift shop, which was amazing! The sad part was the price on everything, like extortion cost. Everything in there was a minimum of double to triple what I could find it somewhere else which made it very frustrating. Some of the models they had in there were so incredible, one of which was a diamond covered Mercedes Benz Sl 500 which was being sold for $1,700. RIDICULOUS! Ugly as crap too. I ended up buying little Monster this sweet BMW X5 with a trailer and motorcycle on it, and it lasted less than 24 hours and alas he broke it.

So if you’re a petrol head and want to see some fun cars and be amazed at the coolest and most expensive car gift shop ever – this is the place for you.  Even though everything was expensive, I wanted to go back and buy more cars.
